Мы не используем артикль The с именами людей

• Ann
• Ann Taylor

Как правило мы не используем артикль The с названиями мест

• Континенты ( continents): Africa (not 'the Africa'), Europe, South America
• Страны (countries): France (not 'the France'), Japan, Switzerland
• Штаты Регионы(states, regions etc).: Texas, Cornwall, Tuscany, Central Europe
• Города (cities, towns etc).: Cairo, New York, Madrid
• Горы (mountains): Everest, Etna, Kilimanjaro

Однако The используется с 'Republic', 'Kingdom', 'States' etc.:

• the United States of America (the USA)
• the United Kingdom (the UK)
• the Dominican Republic

• We visited Canada and the United States.

Острова (islands):
Группы островов имеют названия во множественном числе с артиклем the:

• the Bahamas 
• the Canaries 
• the Canary Islands 
• the British Isles

Отдельные острова обычно имеют названия в единственном числе и без артикля the:

• Corfu 
•  Easter Island

В конструкции Mr/Mrs/Captain/Doctor/uncle etc. + имя мы не используем 'the'.

• Mr Johnson
• Doctor Johnson
• Captain Johnson
• President Johnson etc. (not 'the...')
• Uncle Robert
• Aunt Jane
• Saint Catherine
• Princess Anne etc. (not 'the...')

С названиями океанов, рек, морей и т.д. артикль The употребляется

• the Atlantic (Ocean)
• the Mediterranean (Sea)
• the Red Sea
• the Indian Ocean
• the Channel (between France and Britain)
• the Suez Canal
• the (River) Amazon
• the (River) Thames
• the Nile
• the Rhine

Lake + название употребляется без the

• Lake Superior 
• Lake Constance

• They live near the lake. but They live near Lake Constance.

Мы используем the + фамилия или название мест во множественном числе:

• people: the Taylors (= the Taylor family), the Johnsons
• countries: the Netherlands, the Philippines, the United States
• groups of islands: the Canaries/the Canary Islands, the Bahamas, the British Isles
• mountain ranges: the Rocky Mountains/the Rockies, the Andes, the Alps

Регионы: East/ North / South/ West

Мы употребляем данные слова с артиклем the если в предложении они выполняют роль существительного

• the Middle East /the Far East
• the north of England /the south of Spain/ the west of Canada

но без the если в предложении они выполняют роль прилагательного

• northern England / southern Spain / western Canada
• North America/ West Africa/ South-East Spain
